19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court after March of that year.
Success also signifies he has secured 21 titles at 21 different events.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament previously this season.
His counter-punching strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.
He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, striving for his first tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.
The opponent saved 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
