The anticipation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be building a faster-paced experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
